Warwickshire 12 year olds top the bill for Pop Star Party

Ella had an amazing party today. Her 12 friends were all great singers & great personalities and the songs went exceptionally well, making the party a pleasure to run. Choosing 2 songs as group songs Ella kicked off in style with LMFAO's 'Sexy & I Know It' which took no time to record as they were such an organised group. Buzzing from the start we took a break from singing and did the photo shoot in Pop Star Parade (our purpose built red carpet room where personalities come to life) then had a bit of buffet food then straight back in to sing Labrinth's 'Beneath Your Beautiful'. Who needs Emile Sandé when Ella is in the studio?!! Top group song and and Ella added a little solo part in the middle. Well done everyone - see yu all soon.
Oh how could i forget? - the cake was amazing - a purpose made Born in a Barn Party birthday cake - will post about this tomorrow - wicked!!

Crazy photos - crazy day - nice one!!

Leicester 12 year olds lovin' their Pop Star Party

Today was unusual because our super cool pop stars were twins. Finola and Naimh from Leicestershire had a very special party with their select friends and we had a lot of fun. It's the first time any disabled kids have been to a party at Born in a Barn Studio and we all had a brill time.

Taylor Swift's We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and Little Mix's Wings were on the hit list today and both seemed quite easy for this great group.

Warwick 10 years have wild time at Pop Star Party

Emma from Warwick had a wicked time at her Pop Star Party at Born in a Barn Studio with 12 of her mates, and enormous cup cake birthday cake and tons of really big voices.
They did 2 songs as a a group with no solo today so we had fun  getting through everything.
First up was Carly Rae Jepson's Call Me Maybe which proved tricky at the end but generally went OK with everyone really enjoying the singing experience. The second choice was a new song to our parties but they delivered Emile Sande's Read All About It with their own special charm and shouts!!
As you can see there was a fairly large Psy influence to todays party too and an obsession with playing, singing and dancing Gangnam Style - me thinks this will last for quite a while!
Emma had a wonderful time and we adults all needed a big rest afterwards!!

Meriden 11 year olds mix it up at Pop Star Party

Jade and her gang of mates from Meriden had a great party recently choosing 2 songs to sing as a group. First up was Die Young by Ke$ha which turned out to be a great Pop Star Party song and was sung really well. After the photo shoot (with random Bolt impressions) and buffet they sang Carly Rae Jepson's Call Me Maybe and although everyone was super hyped by this time we got a respectable copy down for posterity.  Even tho it was freezing outside the barn was cooking for these kids.
Top party and well done everyone.

Henley in Arden 8 year olds rock it up at Pop Star Party

Harry from Henley in Arden is a keen drummer and was more into Indie Rock than pop but this didn't stop him having a great time at his party. We set the drum kit up for him and he all but disappeared behind it when he had a go to show off his percussive talents.  Keep it up Harry - drumming is a lot of fun.

Going a bit off the normal track he had also rewritten the words to his chosen group song Park Life by Blur (from the 80's) and instead had a unique set of words titled School Life!  It took a while but with good coaching (from Dad as well) we got there and the finished track as ever sounded cool - well done Harry.

A spirited group and we all had some excellent home made cake at the end.

10 year olds party is great fun

Kellimarie from Coventry and her crew of really well behaved kids had a great time at the barn singing our fave song - Jessie J's Price Tag as the group choice (a classic pop star party tune now) and then her own specially edited short version of Adele's classic Set Fire To The Rain with her 2 chosen backing singers to add some harmonies.

Not only is Kellimarie a cool little singer but she is already in her own band, as pictured here, so she is definitely going to be returning soon to record them.

Pop Star Party is a recording experience where we cover singing, listening, self-critique and analysis, but also have fun posing like a pop star for photos, have a quick snack buffet and burn it all off in the disco at the end, often dressing up a bit with hats, masks and sunglasses. Serious recordings take all day of course but whatever we do at our parties there is always a CD made to remember the day by - often used a party bag replacements as they are unique!

Well done Kellimarie - top party!!

9 year olds have a great birthday treat

Serenity and her gang of 8 friends had a top party today singing Carly Rae Jepsons Don't Call Me Maybe as 1st choice for the group (which went very smoothly) then Sexy And I Know It as 2nd group song choice. LMFAO would have been most impressed as this song seemed to be a breeze. Maybe it was all the buffet food that fired them up - or maybe they were all just great singers!

We had a laugh doing the photoshoot in Pop Star Parade and a great little disco at the end. Well done everyone.

Coventry 10 year olds at Pop Star Party again

Louis is a hardcore Scouting For Girls fan and chose 2 songs for the party by them - no-one else was gonna be good enough!

Taking his gang to the challenge of singing She's So Lovely went really well - really, really well. I didn't think it would happen but we did manage some 2 part harmonies and melodic backing singing on this track and everyone was impressed with the teamwork.

After the photoshoot and food Louis was straight back in to sing I Wish I Was James Bond.   After just 3 runs we had captured a great performance - well done Louis - see you soon.

Shrewsbury 14 year olds have hectic Halloween Pop Star Party

Melissa and Olivia have reached 14 and they are twins but don't do everything the same way, at all.
A great party tho that ran over a bit as some decision making seemed to take forever lol - with 2 new songs been sung at the party there was a lot to decide about - believe me. First up was Rihanna's Diamonds which went very well and there were 7 girls to sing the 7 lines at the end - easy?? No!!

Next up we had Taylor Swifts We Are Never Ever Getting Back (It - ed!) Together - a simple little tune with quite a bit of American spoken voice bits - tricky yes but trickier to decide who was gonna do them. Patience is a very important thing for any recording engineer/producer/audience/parent or singer!!! However after a while we got there and the track came out really fun - well done everyone.

Top fun party tho and even Peter the Pumpkin had fun. We witnessed some great/bizarre posing on the mic in pop star parade - thats what its all about really - well done everyone!

Baby thankfuly NOT Born in a Barn at Pop Star Party

It was a nerve racking party to run for Coventry cool-kid Chloe and her friends, since her Mum was heavily pregnant and with only 6 days to go we didn't want anything to go wrong!!!!!

Mind the step has never been said soooo many times but of course everything went really well. Even with 1 guest arriving late (not an omen i hope) Chloe had a great time and took on 2 new songs. Well kinda - 'Wings' by Little Mix has become very popular recently and the group made it sound easy. The solo was interesting tho - Taylor Swifts, 'We're Never Ever Getting Back Together' is a great track but it shows how hard it is to sing like this when you do it for real. Well done girls - hope the birth goes well this weekend. We even had a bit of Psy's Gangnam Style thrown in during the photo shoot.

Keresley 11 year olds add a new flavour to Pop Star Party

Just when you think most things have been done something new comes into the farm - a party bus brought Skye and her pop star friends to the farm this weekend. Whats a party bus? Well its a massive black bus that has been blinged-up to be like a limo inside and doesn't look too far different from the A Team bus on its outside!!

Skye and her friends did really well and there were some lovely singers in this group too. Singing Wings by X Factor champs Little Mix was a great choice and top start to the party getting everyone into it.  After a very cool photo shoot in Pop Star Parade (our own unique red carpet posing catwalk area) and some fairly organised choreography, the group had a bit of food then we all zoned in on Skye and Tayla for their duet, singing Stooshe's Black Heart. This has some very high bits in it which did prove tricky, but after a few experiments with other ways to sing them we got round it nicely.  Well done ladies - you really did well under pressure!

Sad to see them go but we did get to see this magnificent party bus - below!

Coventry Kids go crazy at Pop Star Party

Pop Star Party just gets better and better. Just recently we had a big group of 9 year olds who all had a top time singing with us at Born in a Barn Studio.

Romy and Annie from Coventry had birthdays together so when all 14 of their friends were in the barn it was a noisy place to be. I think nearly all the extra instruments came out at some point even the Chinese Urhu got investigated.

Needless to say the party was a great one and the group sang really well together, doing Domino by our favourite lady of pop, Jessie J.  The pair didnt want to sing solos so another group song was chosen and this time it was Carly Rae Jepson's Call Me Maybe which went even better. Pumped from the buffet and fired up after the photo shoot the group had a great time finishing with a really cool disco.

Nuneaton 9 year olds enoy their Pop Star Party

To round the weekend off we had Charly from Nuneaton with her 9 year old friends and brother to have a great birthday. Clearly there was a pink theme going on here and they all got new names from me!

Group songs today were Little Mix's Wings and Katy Perry's Part of Me, both sung experty and delivered down the mic like pro's.  Brother Ethan clearly enjoying his moment here - maybe you need a party here soon!!

9 year olds from Leamington have top childrens party at BB Studio

Holly had another big party this weekend with her 15 friends too. Singing Bruno Mars' Grenade went smoothly - nice easy song for a group and then we did Trains Drive By which was new to Pop Star Party and thankfully they all sang this very too.

When we do a solo at Pop Star Party its quite special really as we create a stage-like atmosphere - adrenaline runs high and we get some great singing as a result. Well done Holly - see yu soon.

12 year olds from Coventry have biggest birthday party ever at the barn

It was a marathon weekend with 2 of our biggest ever parties both on the same day, but Eve had the studio packed out - 18 12year olds can make a lot of noise believe me.

But it was good noise - the group song was Forget You by Cee Lo Green which went pretty smoothly and when Eve did her solo (Valerie - Amy Winehouse) the studio went quiet it was sooo good - well done Eve.

12 year olds from Solihull dress up for Pop Star Party

OK so we had 4 parties to run over the weekend all unique in their own way but Holly-Mae and her pop star friends came dressed up for theirs and we had Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Katy Perry (twice?) Taylor Swift, Elvis Presley (random!) Lady Gaga, Cheryl, Jessie J and Britney - and here they are!!!!

And they all sounded just like them too - honest!
We tackled Nicki Minaj's Starships as the group which went OK and then after some deliberation Holly-Mae sang her solo which was Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson. Top stuff everyone and the award for best costume goes to Cheryl aka Francesca - top hat and you blend into the room so well - wicked.

13 year old Kenilworth kids have poptastic Pop Star Party

With such an appropriate name as Poppy I don't know why we haven't met at Pop Star Party before, but Poppy certainly had a great party.  Answers to the intro question of 'why are you a supercool popstar for the day?' were varied and random as always including:
cos im the coolest kid in the playground
cos im special in ev-er-y-way and indy!
cos im a tiger
cos YOLO - you only live once!
cos i got a blue shirt!!!!!

We're all learning new stuff today lol
So Poppy the Perfectly Poised Princess of Pop chose to sing One Direction's 'One Thing' and then Nikki Minaj's 'Super Bass' both as group songs and both went as chaotically as each other - theres a lorra strong characters in this bright bunch! Not too sure about the choreography tho!

Top party well done everyone and I'm sure I'll see you again round here.

Weedon wannabe's up next at Pop Star Party

Millie from Weedon had a top-tastic party with her friends and sister Roxy.
Agreeing on singing Cher Lloyd's Want Yu Back at quite short notice everyone did extremely well to nail this in the first hour - good work girls! Made the disco worthwhile tho' - phew! After the photo shoot in 'Pop Star Parade' and a quick bite to eat in 'Jessie's Pout' our Party Hangout room they all piled back in the Live Room to sing happy birthday then Millie took the spotlight to sing her solo - Lady Gaga's Born This Way - not the easiest song in the world as that Lady Gaga is a bit good but Millie did a great job with it. See y'all soon pop stars!

Wolston wannabe's have a neon Pop Star Party

To top the weekend we had Nicole in for her 11th birthday and all her friends had decided to wear neon coloured clothes and loads of it. Its great when kids do this as the party really feels like we have pop stars in the studio! Half this group were also in some kind of dance group and all of them were fully fired up for a great party with tons of energy. Featuring Katy Perry throughout with Part of Me and The One That Got Away both as group songs Nicoles group sang really well with quite a bit of help at first but we did get 2 great versions of these songs.
The photo shoot was great fun and everyone enjoyed the disco at the end.

Welford 11 year olds have a wicked pop star party

Lenni comes from Welford on Avon and apparently the have a Maypole there - funny things happen in Welford from what I can deduce. However Lenni did have some amazing friends and very cool parents. When asked what makes them a super cool pop star for the day, 1 of the answers i got was 'cos i just look cool' - ace answer and as stated at the time, to be a real pop star you have to have a huge ego. There was no shortage of this today. So Katy Perry was high on the list this weekend and the group sang The One That Got Away - very well in the end, followed by Mean by Taylor Swift which Lenni made sound easy - well done.

Cats apparently - no idea why?!!!
